I've Plugged in a New TinyPICO but It Doesn't Show as a Serial Port
Problem
When connecting a TinyPICO to a computer, it may not appear as a serial port.
Solution
The issue is a missing USB driver. The specific driver needed depends on your board version:
-
TinyPICO V2: Uses a SiLabs CP2104 chip. You can grab the latest drivers from the SiLabs website.
-
TinyPICO V3: Uses a CH9102F chip. You can grab the latest drivers from the WCH website.
How to Identify Your Version
Boards with a Blue power LED use the CH9102F chip (V3), and all others use the CP2104 chip (V2). V3 bags also have identification labels.
After Installation
Once drivers are installed (restart your computer if needed), the board will appear as:
| OS | V2 (CP2104) | V3 (CH9102F) |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART | /dev/tty.wchusbserialXXX |
| Linux | /dev/ttyUSBx | /dev/ttyACM0 |
| Windows | COMn | COMn |
The TinyPICO will then be visible in the Arduino IDE and your system.
